Holidays are important. In those days, people can stay at home with family and friends to remember important events, and to have fun. The followings are major holidays that most Americans celebrate in many ways.

New Year's Day

The first day of January is New Year's Day. This holiday celebrates the beginning of each new year. People in the US sometimes spend this day watching college football games and parades (游行).

Valentine's Day

February 14th is Saint Valentine's Day. Saint Valentine's Day began in Europe and has been celebrated for hundreds of years. In the Us today, we remember friends and sweethearts by giving cards, flowers, chocolates or small gifts.

Easter

Easter is a Christian holiday that is celebrated on a Sunday between March 22nd and April 25th. In the Us people attend religious series and family parties. They hide colored eggs for children to find. Many children get baskets filled with candy that the "Easter Bunny" has left for them.

Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day is the fourth Thursday in November. On this day, people remember how the Indians helped the Pilgrim by teaching them how to farm and hunt. On this day, people will give thanks for food, country and their family.

Christmas Day

December Day

December 25th is Christmas Day. Many people decorate their houses with Christmas trees and lights and give presents to family members. Children hang up stockings for Santa Claus to fill with gifts.
