Opened in 1995, The Elephant House became one of the best tea and coffee houses in Edinburgh. It is the best place for writers such as J. K. Rowling. She sat writing some of her early Harry Porter books in the back room overlooking Edinburgh Castle.
Alexander Smith, the author of The No, I Ladies' Detective Agency, also came to The Elephant House, as well as many others throughout the years.
