    MarkTwain is an American writer and speaker whose real name is Samuel LanghorneClemens.

    MarkTwain was his pen name, a term originally used by Misisipi River sailors toindicate (表示) the depth of water measured on the waterway.

    Hisfamily was so poor that Mark Twain did not receive much teaching. His fatherdied when he was very young. He had to learn all that he could from the peoplewhom he met. Mark Twain wrote a large number of works throughout his life, coveringnovels, plays, prose, poetry and other aspects. His representative worksinclude the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and soon.

    Interms of content, his works criticize (批判) unreasonable phenomena or theugliness of human nature, express the writer's strong sense of justice (正义)and care for the ordinary people as a typesetter and sailor; interms of style, experts and readers generally agree that humor and satire (讽刺) are the characteristics of his writing.

    MarkTwain is the founder of American critical realism literature. Most of his workshave been translated into Chinese.
