Tributes(致敬; 称赞) have poured in from across Chinamourning(哀悼) the passing of Stanley Ho Hung-sun.
The businessman, f for the wealth from hiscasinos(赌场), passed away on May 26. But Ho's contribution to wider society and his ideas went f beyond thegambling table(赌桌). He was also well-respected for his achievements in many areas, i being one of the first businessmen toinvest(投资) in the Chinese mainland when the nation started reform and opening-up in the 1970s. He was also known for hisgenerosity(慷慨) to charities and d money to build schools.
In N 2019, Ho donated a red bronze horse head statue — a long-lost national culturalrelic(遗物) that he paid over 63 million yuan for to m the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to China. In 2007, to mark the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, Ho donated five priceless works of art to the National Museum.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, Ho said that he was p to see the success of the "one country, two systems" in both the Hong Kong and Macao SARs, and as a Chinese c, he looked forward to the peacefulreunification(再统一) of his country.
Ho held manytitles(头衔) in his l, such as member of the Standing Committee of the 9th, 10th and 11th National Committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. But he o said his favorite title is "patriotic entrepreneur(爱国企业家)".
