Southwest Jiao tong University started providing a cooking course on May 8 in 2018. Students taking the course had a training class eight times, with each class lasting for three and a half hours. "When the class was over on June 26, each student could have two credit (学分) and learned how to cook 16 dishes. They included(包括) famous Sichuan dishes such as Chen's Mapo Tofu and double-cooked pork,(回锅肉)" said Yu Yangzhou an official from the university's cooking service center. "The reason why the university provides the course is that many students cannot cook after graduation. They have to order takeout food three times a day," said Yu.
About 100 students wanted to have the course. But the university chose only 15 students because they are only eight electromagnetic stoves(电磁炉) for the class. Except for theshortageof equipment(设备), there are as many as 10 teachers for the 15 students. The 10 teachers include a famous cook in Chengdu and experienced cooks at the university.
"Many students are the only children in their families and hardly do housework. They think what they learned in the cooking class are useful." said Jiang Xinxing, a senior student at the university.
