When I was a child, I always wanted to be a superhero. I wanted to (拯救)the world and then make everyone happy. But I knew that I'd need superpowers to make my (梦想)come true. So I used to take on these imaginary journeys to find intergalactic objects from (行星)Krypton, which was a lot of fun, but didn't get much result. When I grew up and (认识到)that science fiction was not a good source for superpowers, I decided instead to take on a journey of real science, to find a more (有用的)truth.
I (开始)my journey in California with a UC Berkeley 30-year longitudinal (纵向的) study that examined the photos of students in an old yearbook and tried to measure their (成功) and happiness throughout their life. By measuring their smiles, researchers were (能够) to predict how perfect and long a subject's marriage will be and how inspiring she would be to others . In (另一) yearbook, I saw Barry Obama's picture. When I (第一次)saw his picture, I thought that these superpowers came from his super collar. But now I know it was all in his smile.
