Just like there are many kinds of stories, there are many different kinds, or styles of music.
Folk music is a very old style music. At first, folk music described some songs that people had played in their communities or families for hundreds of years. Often, neither the tunes(曲调) nor the words for the songs had been written down. Today, there are also writers who write songs that are in this style.
Classical music prefers tones and other forms of music that began in Europe hundreds of years ago. Composers(作曲家) continue to create this kind of music now.
Rock music is a new form of music as "rock and roll". Sailors had long used the phrase to describe the motion(运动) of ships at sea. Today，the name has simply become "rock".
When your grandparents were young, no one had heard of hip-hop music.
