Hurricanes(飓风) are large storms that develop in the seas of the world. They usually get bigger and(强壮的) over warm water, but they become weaker once they get over land. Hurricanes are storms that are given names, and a new list of names is made each year. The first hurricane name starts with the letter A, (像、如同) Ashley, and the names move through the alphabet from A to Z as more hurricanes form.

Hurricanes(云) move in a circle around a point called the eye, which is the center of the storm. To be called a hurricane, a storm must have wind speeds of at least seventy-four(英里) per hour. When a hurricane comes, there are heavy rains and large waves. They(引起) great trouble to people. Also, flooding can happen when large waves(碰撞) the beaches. The large waves are the main reason why people have to leave beach towns when a hurricane(到达). Hurricane move very slowly though, so people have a(机会) to get out of the way.

The hurricane season usually lasts from(六月) 1 to November 30. These large storms sometimes land on coastal areas of the United States. The scientists are studying the weather, and watching these storms very(仔细地) to give a warning to people. And there's still a long way to go.
