As the capital of 13 dynasties in Chinese history, the ancient city Xi'an has never been far from sports. The students in our grade are interested in some sports of the ancient city Xi'an. Cuju (微球)is an ancient game in which players kicked a ball into a net. It was very popular during the Han Dynasty. Emperor Hangaozu Liu Bang not only liked watching cuju games, but always played it. The earliest record of women cuju players was also from the Han Dynasty.
Jiju (击鞠) was a popular sport in the Tang Dynasty. In the game, players used sticks to hit a ball while riding on horses. In the Tang Dynasty, there were lots of fields for playing. In the capital, there were formal courts for jiju games.
As early as the Zhou Dynasty,archery (射箭) was one of the Six Arts. And formal competitions were held during the Tang Dynasty. Archery was an important part of the wuju examinations, and five kinds of archery skills would be tested.
Ancient jueli is a Chinese—style wrestling (摔胶). During the Sui and Tang dynasties, jueli was preferred by emperors. In the"Tang Dynasty, there were professional wresting teams. Wrestling competitions were usually held twice a year in spring and autumn.
