Shaketha Marion McGregor is a mother of three children aged six, ten and thirteen. After often being asked by her kids for pocket money, she decided her kids should work for their money.
She created a job fair for her company "This Mom Means Business" and offered three positions. Laundry Supervisor, Lead Housekeeper and Kitchen Manager. Her kids had to fill in application forms and interview for the position they were interested in " I don't want to just give it to then," she said. "I want them to try hard for it, so they will value it more." At first, the kids weren't so excited about their mum's "surprise", but they did get on board. The interview went very well.
McGregor noticed a change in her kids' behavior when she gave them money instead of simply buying things for them. "They began checking prices, and they were more careful because it was their money. They wanted to save. "This made her want to think of more ways to teach her kids about time management and job interviews.
McGregor has shared her idea on Facebook, hoping that she will inspire others that education doesn't have to be boring.
