One Saturday morning, Detective Carey was called in to solve a case. Mr Smith had mysteriously (神秘的)disappeared from his one-story home,  according to Carey's partner Detective Green.

"Everything is set (安排好的). Mrs Smith will be expecting you in half an hour at 232 Parker Road," Green told Carey inthe phone call.

Carey got there quickly. She got out of her car and walked up to the house. Mrs Smith brought her inside right away. "Detective, I'm so glad you came. The last place I saw my husband was in his room. I thought that might be the first thing you would ask me," Mrs Smith said.

She walked Carey into the other room. "Up here," Mrs Smith called from the stairs. The front door banged (砰地关上) shut just as Carey started up the steps. "Oh, I must have left the door open. The wind must have shut it," Mrs Smith said. Again they started up the stairs.

Half way up, Carey looked through a window and saw a weathervane (风向标). She noticed that the wind was blowing west. But in order for the wind to shut the door, it would have to be blowing east. Suddenly, she heard loud footsteps on the stairs.

She realized she had walked into a trap(陷阱).
