It was a sunny Friday. Stephanie just returned home from school. She called out to her mother but there was no reply. Thinking that her mother had gone to the supermarket to buy some fruit, Stephanie went into the kitchen to see if dinner was ready.
However, she came across a strong smell of smoke. She looked around the kitchen and was shocked to see that the cloth near the stove(火炉) was on fire. Thinking that her parents were not at home, Stephanie knew that she had to be the one to put out the fire. She ran out of the kitchen, got the fire extinguisher(灭火器) from the living room and returned to the kitchen to put out the fire.
After that, Stephanie ran back to the living room, picked up the phone and tried to call her parents. At that moment, her mother came out of her bedroom with a sleepy expression(表情) on her face. When Stephanie told her what had happened, she was quite nervous. She said sorry to Stephanie for falling asleep with the stove still on. She also praised(表扬) Stephanie for putting out the fire. If Stephanie had come home any later, the fire would have spread to other parts of the house.
Stephanie was glad that her grandfather had taught her how to use the fire extinguisher before. It had helped to stop a fire from breaking out at home.
