One day we invited(邀请)some friends to dinner. When it was about half past five in the evening, my wife(妻子)found that we had little bread. So she asked our five-year-old daughter, Kathy, to buy some. "Here is two dollars, "my wife said, "You get two pieces of bread if they have it. If they don't have it, get anything. But be quick!"
Kathy ran off, and we waited and waited. By a quarter past six, all the friends arrived here. But Kathy didn't return. Finally we saw her dancing around the corner(拐角)with a new fan(扇子).
"Kathy!" her mother cried," Where did you get the fan? Where's the bread?" "Well, when I got to the store, they sold out all the bread, "Kathy answered, "and you said "If they don't have it, you get anything." so I bought the fan."
