On August 5, 2021, Chinese sportswoman Quan Hongchan became the youngest Chinese diver (跳水运动员) to win a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Quan was born on March 28, 2007 and grew up in the small village of Maihe, Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. She is the third among the five children in her family. Quan started diving at the age of 7 in Zhanjiang and joined the Guangdong provincial team in 2018. Quan has spent almost all her time on hard training. She had never been to a zoo or an amusement park before 2021.
When people asked her how to celebrate the success as an Olympic champion (冠军), Quan said, "In many ways. My mom had a car accident four years ago. I wanted to make more money to help cure (治愈) her. My gold medal is the best gift for her. Now, the most important thing is to prepare for our National Games which will be held in September."
