The Queen of Heaven knows about it. She is so angry and takes Zhi Nu back to heaven. Niu Lang misses his wife very much. With the help of his old ox, he flies to heaven. However, he cannot reach his wife because the Queen makes a river between them.
Both Zhi Nu and Niu Lang are very sad, but they still love each other. Their love finally touches the Queen and she allows them to meet once a year, on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. On that day, thousands of birds come to build a bridge over the river. Zhi Nu and Niu Lang can meet each other on the "bird bridge".
The meeting day of the couple is now the Double Seventh Festival or Qixi Festival.
