Kenzaburo Oe, a well—known Japanese author, passed away on March 3 at the age of 88. He won Japan its Nobel Prize in Literature(文学)with books about the war and his disabled son.
Born in 1935. Oe began writing stories he was still a student and won the Akutagawa Prize in 1958. It is a respurted(受尊敬的)award for new writers in Japan. From then on, Oe got a place he greats of Japanese literature.
World War Il ended when Oe was 10. It his life's work. He wrote dark stories of the war. It may have inspired his writing. Oe's other inspiration was his brain—damaged(脑损伤的)son, Hikari, who was to talk for years as a child. Oe has said that much of his writing tried to give Hikari a voice. Several of Oe's books have characters based on Hikari's own life. One of them. A Personal Matter, looks at the problems which he had his child. A number of these books when he won the prize in 1994.
Kenzaburo Oe had long been interested in Chinese literature and had strong to China. As a schoolboy, he—got a copy of Lu Xun's short stories in Japanese from his mother and fell in love with them. Oe often talked about Lu Xun and his works in personal . Oe was also a longtime friend of Mo Yan. He even spoke of Mo Yan when he won his Nobel Prize in Stockholm in 1994. Mo Yan won the prize 18 years later.
