Lots of schools in America teach music, but not every school teaches mariachi. Mariachi is a kind of Mexican (墨西哥) music. It has a long history.
Richard Edwards Elementary School in Chicago (芝加哥) starts mariachi lessons this year. The students learn mariachi or violins and guitars. They also learn to sing mariachi songs. Mariachi helps them learn about the culture of Mexico.
Mariachi is also popular with these students' parents. Many of them are from Mexico. They listened to mariachi music every day when they were young. But later they left Mexico and moved to the United States. Their children were born and they listened to different kinds of music and watched different sports. Now they can play mariachi together.
Mariachi lessons are popular, but it is not easy for schools to start the subject. Many people do not know what mariachi is. Money is also a problem. Schools have to buy many violins and guitars for their students. That needs a lot of money.
Still mariachi is becoming more and more popular with many American people, and schools all over the country.
