Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is the second smallest planet in our solar system. Mars is sometimes called "the Red Planet" because of its colour. But we can't breathe (呼吸) well because there isn't enough air.
Mars was named after the Roman god of war. The month of March is also named after him.
It is important to learn about mars because Earth and Mars are always moving. Sometimes, Mars is close to Earth. Choosing the shortest way is a good idea because the journey will need less power.
Mars is the safest planet to travel to because:
* its soil has a little water,
*it gets enough sunlight to use solar power
* there is some gravity (重力) to help us walk:
*a day on the Mars is almost as the same length as on the earth.
Humans want to find out if there might be life on other planets and scientist believe that Mars is the best planet for life, besides Earth.
