It was a Saturday morning. While Alisa was putting her head in her first-aid (急救) book, Mom told her that their neighbor Helen, a community volunteer, had driven off. Alisa closed the book and1 , "She should have taken me with her to help. She always thinks I'm too2 , but I am already 17!"
Then Alisa went out for a walk. She met Tom, a naughty boy. He was trying to stand on a cow's3 to get attention, and some kids gathered round to see it.
"No wonder Helen doesn't4 me with anything important." she sighed.
Alisa had just turned away when she heard a loud sound. Tom5 ! She ran to him, checked his legs and decided the left one was broken. She6 remembered what the first-aid book had said about broken legs: straighten the bone before moving the patient.
"Victor!" Alisa called a boy, "Go to get Tom's mom and find a7 to send him to the hospital!" She turned to the other kids. "Give me your shirts. We need something to8 his leg with." Alisa then found a strong and straight stick. She carefully wrapped (用……包裹) the shirts around Tom's leg and the stick. Tom cried out9 . "I know it hurts." Alisa said10 , "But this will hold it still until you get to the hospital."
When Alisa was done, Tom's parents were arriving in a truck. "Thank you, Alisa! " they said. Alisa helped them11 Tom into the truck, then they drove towards the hospital.
The next day, Helen came to Alisa's home. "I heard what you did." she said, "You kept12 in an emergency (紧急情况) . That's an important skill!"
Alisa's face turned13 . "I was afraid …"
"It's OK, as long as you have a14 head." Helen smiled, "The volunteer doctors are coming tomorrow with vaccines (疫苗) . We need some more15 . Can you help?
