Winter comes. It's cold! We wear coats and hats. We stay in warm houses. We feel warm. How do animals spend the winter? Wild geese fly south for winter. They fly a long way. They fly in groups. Some butterflies fly to warm places for winter, too. Some animals don' t fly away. They are active in winter. Red foxes grow thick fur for winter. You can find them in forests. Snowshoe rabbits live in North America. They are brown in summer. They grow new white fur in winter. It keeps them warm and safe in snow. Black bears make warm beds to sleep in. They use leaves and grass. Some bears can stay asleep for seven months. Squirrels store food in fall. They store nuts and mushrooms. They hide food in their cheeks. They hide food in holes in trees too.
