Recently, my 15-year-old daughter asked me for help with her homework. Unluckily, I was busy helping her brother. When I finally came to her 30 minutes later, she told me that she had asked ChatGPT for help. Through several rounds of questions and answers, it had explained her physics lesson as well as helped her solve the problems.
I wouldn't call this cheating. Let's take a closer look at what ChatGPT is, how it works and its problems.
ChatGPT is a big language model. It is trained on a large number of text, which allows it to produce human-like responses (响应) to different kinds of questions. ChatGPT has allowed students to complete their homework without much effort. This has raised worries about cheating and their learning ability. Educators fear that students will become lazy thinkers. With ChatGPT, they will fail to develop lifelong skills like critical thinking (批判性思维), researching and writing.
For sure, ChatGPT is a powerful language model. It has the power to completely change the way we learn and interact (互相交流) with machines.
