Emily (艾米莉) came back home from her best friend Anna' s birthday party. Anna got a special gift from her grandma. It was a white horse named Charles. He looked cute. 艾米莉想要她妈妈为她买一匹马。
However, Emily' s mom disagreed. " A horse is very expensive. And we don' t have a place to keep the horse. " Emily suggested (建议) keeping it at the stable (养马场) like Anna did. But Mom said that they would have to spend lots of money and time looking after it. Emily felt unhappy.
Later that day, Emily' s mom said to her, " I can' t buy you a horse, but I signed you up (报名) for five riding lessons. You will study with Anna in the same class next week. I know it' s not the same as having your own horse, but…"
" It' s better, " Emily said. " Anna has to feed her horse and clean him every day. It takes most of the afternoon. I' ll just get to ride. 5. It' s the best gift I have ever got. Thank you, Mom!"
