① Friendship Day falls on the first Sunday of August every year. Celebrating the festival was firstly started by the US in 1935. But now this doesn't only happen in the US. Friendship Day has become an international festival because more and more countries join in the celebrations (庆祝).
② Between 1936 and 1997, Friendship Day didn't have a symbol (象征), like Santa Claus for Christmas. However, in 1997, the United Nations named Winnie the Pooh as the symbol of Friendship Day.
③ The traditional celebrations include (包括) activities such as meeting with friends and giving cards, flowers or gifts to friends. Some people may have lunch or dinner with their friends. Others may go to the cinema with friends on this special day.
④ Friendship Day and its celebrations may have changed over the years, but the idea behind the festival remains (仍然是) the same. People enjoy the moment they spend together and show love and care for their friends.
