"Good luck. Nick!" Mom called on the beach as I paddled(划) my kayak(皮艇) into the sea. She was excited to watch me compete in my first kayak fishing competition. I was excited too, but I was also nervous because it was cloudy and the wind was blowing hard.
To win the competition, I would need to catch a big halibut(比目鱼). The winner would win a new kayak. The halibut is a big sea fish, and it can be 2.5 meters long. I knew how and where to catch a halibut, but today it would need luck because of the bad weather.
I slowly paddled to an area where I had caught halibut before. When I arrived, five players were already there. It would not be the best place today.
I continued paddling to another area. When I got there, I took out my favorite fishing pole(竿) However, I realized that I had left all my baits (鱼饵) on the beach with Mom.
What could I use? I got more nervous, but I knew that I had to do something about it. Suddenly, I remembered I had a fake lure(假饵). I threw the lure out and started to wait. After about 10 minutes, my fishing pole moved down towards the water suddenly. I pulled(拉) back hard on the pole and the fight was on! I could tell this was a big fish!
