Buying gifts for friends and family can be one of the most difficult parts of the holiday season. But don't worry! We can help! Here are some gift ideas to suit all pockets.

E-Skateboard

For a friend who used to skateboard as a teen but has got a bit out-of-shape over the years, how about an electric skateboard? Control your speed with the remote control (遥控) and let the wind blow through your hair as you race down the street. Though it is not cheap, it might be worth trying.

Pillow (枕头) Speaker

With the speaker, you can fall asleep to the sound of waves, your favorite broadcast, or a relaxing song. With earphones, the cable (耳机线) can be uncomfortable to sleep on. But this little flat speaker is placed under the pillow, and the sound can only be heard by the person resting on the pillow.

Key Finder

This is the perfect gift for people who're always looking for their keys. Attach the key finder to your key chain, and by using your phone you can make the key finder ring to let you know where it is. It can also warn you if your keys are too far away from you. If you drop your keys, the key finder app keeps track of the last place of your keys and displays the location on the map.

TV Back Light

Leaving the lights on when watching a movie is too bright, but if you switch them off, it tires your eyes. This LED strip solves that problem and makes your movie experience even more enjoyable. You can change the color of the lights to suit your mood using a remote control. And it's under ten dollars. So if you're saving money, this might be something to consider.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

Mr. Guo is a teacher from Xi'an. He asked his students to hand in their homework through a QR code (二维码) . "We spent an hour or two in class learning how to generate (产生) the codes, and in the end everything gets easier" said Gao. "When students finish the homework, they keep it on WeChat. Then, each student makes his own QR code and gives it to me. So I can check their work everywhere using my computer or telephone."

The QR codes can be sent to Mr. Guo by email, QQ and WeChat. When Guo scans (扫描) his students' QR codes, their homework appears on his phone. He finds that their homework becomes more creative, with many pictures, music and even videos.

Guo's students like the new way and think it is interesting. "We are living in the information age. Many students like to work with computers, which makes learning more fun." said Tingting, a student of Guo's.

"The paper is not easy to keep. but the code is easy to keep and share." Guo said. "It is worth trying to use new technology in education. Education itself is a kind of creation. I don't want my students to fall behind the times."

However, some parents are worried. They are afraid that their children will spend too much time on computers and less time communicating with teachers. But in fact, it's unnecessary.

Students still need to look up information in books and write it down when they do their homework. They only use the code when they hand in their homework, which doesn't take them too much time. Also for teachers, it allows them to check the students' work at any time. And it's also an easy way to share homework with other students.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

Natural disasters take many different forms and can happen without warning. Earthquakes, floods, volcanoes. droughts. typhoons, and hurricanes are all natural disasters.

The earthquake of 26 December 2004 resulted in one of the worst natural disasters in living memory. It was a massive (大规模的) underwater quake and occurred in the Indian Ocean. This caused a huge tsunami to cross the Indian Ocean. It destroyed coastlines and communities and brought death and destruction (破坏) to many people. The survivors needed fresh water, food and shelter as well as medical help. People from all over the world collect money to help them.

The surface of the Earth has not always looked as it does today; it is moving continuously although very slowly and has done so for billions of years. This is one cause of earthquakes, when one section of the Earth crashes with another. Scientists can predict (预测) where this might happen and the area between plates is called a fault line. However, earthquakes do not always happen on fault lines, which is why they are so dangerous and unpredictable.

All the disasters are very dangerous and continue to kill thousands of people each year. but they are nowhere near the most dangerous disaster to ever happen on earth. One type of event in the earth's history has regularly killed millions of beings: asteroid impacts (小行星撞击) . About once every million years the Earth is hit by a piece of rock and ice from space large enough to cause massive destruction (including earthquakes, volcanoes and ice ages) and sometimes to kill entire species. Sixty-five million years ago more than half the earth's species were killed by such a disaster, including all the dinosaurs. Disasters on the Earth may seem dangerous, but the biggest threat to humans is likely to come from space.

What Are the Physical Benefits of Exercise?

Exercise is often thought of as activities that help a person lose weight or prevent weight gain. Having a body that is slimmer and trimmer is certainly one of the physical benefits of exercise. but there are many others.

Exercising can help strengthen the muscles.

Diet pills may help a man shed weight but they will not help him build or strengthen his muscles. The physical benefits of exercise are generally experienced simultaneously. This benefit is not limited to males and the types of exercises that produce these results are not limited to weight lifting.

Working out can make the bones stronger.

Exercise also strengthens bones, which becomes more important the older a person gets. Bones go through a natural process of breaking down the rebuilding. Physical activity produces that stimulation and, therefore, helps decrease the likelihood of conditions such as osteoporosis (质松) .

Many people are concerned with looking older. Slowing and reversing the effects of aging are benefits of physical exercise. Cellulite (皮下脂肪团) , for example, can make a young woman appear older than she is. Wrinkles are another sign of aging that can be reduced by exercise since physical activity tends to improve the condition of skin.

A. Many people want to change or improve their bodies.

B. Taking regular exercise can reduce the effects of aging.

C. As people grow older, however, the rebuilding process slows unless it is stimulated.

D. Training also reduces the negative physical effects which a person feels when he ages.

E. Exercise has the ability to help a person change his body shape, and make him stronger.

F. The appearance of cellulite can be diminished with basic exercises such as walking or jogging.

G. These include strengthening the bones, strengthening the muscles, and reducing the effects of aging.

With new faces everywhere, the time in Grade 1 was really tough for me. Since I was an Indian girl. nobody wanted to talk to me. Every spare minute was spent alone, and no classmates would group with me for projects.

Feeling lonely and sad. I was in desperate need of close friends. A girl named Fatin, who was cute, clever and talented, appealed to me deeply. However, she seemed to be avoiding me as well. Being only six years old, I didn't understand why people treated me like that. I opened up to my mother about all this. almost crying my eyes out.

Mom smiled, comforting me until I calmed down. She looked into my eyes and encouraged me, "Honey, don't worry. They're just not familiar with you. Try to bring out the best in you. They'll befriend (做朋友) you as long as they see your advantages." At that time, I didn't believe her, but Mom was right.

One day, my teacher, Miss Barbara, announced that there was to be a speech competition. I really enjoyed joining in speech competitions. Actually, I was quite good at them. The only problem was that the whole school would be watching me and I knew none of my audience.

However, I was determined to do it. I gathered all my courage, went up to the teacher and said, "Miss Barbara, I want to join in the speech competition." She stared at me, but then I saw a gentle smile on her face. She handed me an application form.

The next day, I arrived at school early to submit (提交) my form to the teacher. Miss Barbara said encouragingly to me, "For a new student, you have lots of courage. Do your best, Diya!"
