Museum of Natural History

Being a must-see spot in the museum at present, the Grand Gallery of Evolution dates back to the 1880s. Originally playing as a zoology building, it reopened to the public in 1994 after decades of ignorance. The entire museum displays more than 9,000 preserved animals and insects.

Museum of Music

The museum's collection covers centuries of European classical music and instruments, with decorated pianos and hundreds of horns and string instruments. Live performances take place in the galleries of the museum every day. The museum provides two versions of its English-language audio guide, one for children and the other for adults.

Fairground Art Museum

At this museum, guides describe the history of Europe's traveling fairs and explain signs that identify the origin of the country with a carousel horse. Reserve your tickets in advance on the museum's website. Tours in French are offered several days a week all year round, and English-language tours are offered in the summer months.

Museum of Arts and Crafts

It was founded during the French Revolution to show its advanced science and technologies and has since received constant updates. Early planes, including the first to cross the English Channel, hang from the ceiling of one building. The collection has a huge range, with antique cars, early engines and elements (元素) used in the construction of the Statue of Liberty.

Museum of Magic

Each visit to this museum begins with a short performance of simple tricks, followed by a guided tour of the magic tools and objects on display in those 16th-century basements. This tour currently takes place in French, so English-speaking visitors may want to explore on their own with the help of English-language guidebooks available at the entrance.

My generation—people born after 1990 —are accustomed to "all-in-platform" life, where we use mobile apps of different platforms to do almost everything in life.

For instance, I ordered a cup of coffee on Monday using an online delivery app. Then, I called a taxi by tapping on the app of a ride-booking service. Next, I bought some necessities on shopping platform Taobao. That done, I moved on to various other online destinations to get my daily fix of music, reading, social networking and so forth.

Platforms now play an increasingly important role in almost all aspects of day-to-day life, not just in economic and political processes. Consumption and social interaction are closely linked to platforms now.

But, I began to get confused recently. I thought I was being treated differently. My friend and I called a taxi at the same time on a ride-hailing platform (打车平台) and found that for the same destination, the prices were different. The price indicated on my phone was higher. One of the potential reasons could have been that I regularly use the ride-hailing platform and have a higher ranking while my friend doesn't use it that often. So, the ride-hailing platform offers discounts to newbies like her, to attract and have such customers.

China's latest efforts in regulating monopolistic (垄断的) or improper market behavior are of great significance in protecting consumers' lawful rights.

"The essence of platform-based monopoly (垄断) is that a large number of users are gathered on only a select few platform companies, leading to uneven data gathering different platforms. But in China some platforms use their own data and traffic (流量) to expand capital in a disorderly way," said Wang Yong, deputy director of the Institute of Economics at Tinghua University.

Data monopoly also brought another inconvenience for consumers--platforms block links to each other. For instance, link to We Chat Pay of Tencent is not available on Alibuba's Taobao while there is no Alipay link on JD app's payment options.

"More efforts should also be made to strike a good balance between personal information protection and interconnection between platforms. Companies are being encouraged to further develop data safety technology so that the data are available but not visible."

People who have trouble walking or moving around often have a hard time enjoying the beach. But hundreds of beaches in Greece now offer a new way for people in wheelchairs to get into the water by themselves. It's called Seatrac.

Seatrac is basically a chair on a moving ramp (坡道) that can carry a disabled person into the sea. It is operated by remote (远程的) control. Once in the sea, the person can either remain in the chair, enjoying the water, or go for a swim. When the person is ready to get out of the water, the Seatrac system brings the chair back to the top the ramp.

Seatrac was invented and developed in Greece. When one of the inventors, Ignatios Fotiou, was talking with a friend who used a wheelchair, the friend said he enjoyed the sea, but didn't like having to be carried into the ocean. Mr Fotiou realized there must be a way to make it easier for wheelchair users to get into the water. Mr Fotiou worked with his partner and a professor at a Greek university to design the system. Finnally, they formed a company called TOBEA to build and sell the systems.

The company worked hard to make the system simple enough to be put in place and easy to run. A wooden walkway allows wheerchair users to reach the Seatrac. The system uses solar (太阳能的) power. It doesn't require outside power, and can continue to run even if the electricity goes out. The Seatrac system can easily be packed up and stored when the swimming season ends.

The Seatrac system is being used at over 220 beaches in Greece, Cypris, Italy, and Latvia. TOBEA hopes to offer Seatrac in other countries. TOBEA has created a website showing where beaches with these special services can be found. The Greek govenment hopes that Seatrac will help attract more tourists to the country.

Atomic shapes are so simple that they can't be broken down any further. Mathematicians are trying to turn to artificial intelligence (AI) for help to build a periodic table of these shapes, hoping it will assist in finding yet-unknown atomic shapes.

Tom Coates at Imperial College London and his colleagues are working to classify atomic shapes known as Fano varieties, which are so simple that they can't be broken down into smaller components. Just as chemists arranged element s in the periodic table by their atomic weight and group to reveal new insights, the researchers hope that organizing these atomic shapes by their various properties will help in understanding them.

The team has given each atomic shape a sequence of numbers based on its features such as the number of holes it has or the extent to which it bends around itself. This acts as a bar code (条形码) to identify it. Coates and his colleagues have now created an AI that can predict certain properties of these shapes from their bar code numbers alone, with an accuracy of 98 percent.

The team member Alexander Kasprzyk at the University of Nottingham, UK, says that the AI has let the team organize atomic shapes in a way that begins to follow the periodic table, so that when you read from left to right, or up and down, there seem to be general patterns in the geometry (几何) of the shapes.

Graham Nib lo at the University of Southampton, UK, stresses that humans will still need to understand the results provided by AI and create proofs of these ideas. "AI has definitely got unbelievable abilities. But in the same way that telescopes (望远镜) don't put astronomers out of work, AI doesn't put mathematicians out of work," he says. "It just gives us new backing that allows us to explore parts of the mathematical landscape that are out of reach."

The team hopes to improve the model to the point where missing spaces in its periodic table could point to the existence of unknown shapes.

As much as 80 percent of premature heart disease is preventable by making specific lifestyle choices. Some strategies, such as exercising and managing weight, are well known. But others may not have crossed your mind.  

Get eight hours of sleep. "When you're not rested, everything that happens in your life is a lot more stressful," says Dr. Arya Sharma, a professor of medicine at the University of Alberta. If we don't have enough sleep, our bodies also have more difficulty controlling blood pressure, inflammation and glucose levels. 

Engage in volunteer work.  Research published in Psychosomatic Medicine showed that a feeling of purpose in life is linked to a lower likelihood of heart attack and stroke. Depending on the type of work you do, volunteering might even increase your physical activity.

 Try to get your outdoor exercise far away from highways and industrial districts, and spend more time indoors when the air quality index is poor. As various studies show, even short periods of exposure are unhealthy for people who already have other cardiovascular (心血管的) risks, such as high blood pressure.

Laugh.  A 2016 study in the Journal of Epidemiology of more than 20,000 people over the age of 65 found a lower incidence of cardiovascular disease in those who reported laughing every day.

Alice is a student who came to my class last year. Though she has already turned 60, Alice looks so fit and1 with a bright smile and an enthusiastic attitude. I am Alice's teacher in class, but I feel she is my teacher in life.

Perhaps even more incredible is that it's smack bang in the middle of Kentucky.

Mammoth Cave National Park preserves this unique and historical natural wonder. As large as the limestone cave system is, park officials, estimate there  be another 600 miles of cave passageways that have yet to be explored.

 those unexplored, more than 200 caves exist in the park that are disconnected from the larger system.

The incredible rock formations have resulted in the park  (recognize) as a World Heritage Site, thanks to its extraordinary size and scientific importance — making it one of only 13 natural US sites with that title.

The caves were created naturally by the process of limestone erosion, which is known as "karst topography". Rain and rivers slowly dissolve and shape soft limestone, which creates the vast underground network. The system is still being shaped and carved today. Not only are they a stunning destination to visit, but the system also provides drinking water for roughly 40% of the US population — and they're historical significance too.

The caves act as a time capsule that preserve over 5,000 years of human history — and the caves' first explorers were Native Americans, who (mine) the upper levels of Mammoth Cave. Thanks to the cave system's atmosphere and natural protection from any kind of human disturbance, the archaeological sites have been left in great shape. Several sets of Native American remains have been recovered,  (provide) fascinating evidence of pre-Columbian funerary practices.

Mammoth Cave was established as a national park thanks to strong local support. Back in the 1920s, Secretary of the Interior Hubert Work created the Southern Appalachian National Park Commission in 1925 to survey (propose) park sites, including the caves. After years of work acquiring the land for the park, as well as building roads, trails, and public facilities, Mammoth Cave National Park was established on July 1, 1941.

Pioneering African Americans were some of the first cave guides, and are responsible for some of the more recently discovered passageways. Stephen Bishop, who was a slave, worked in the cave from 1838 to 1856 and ventured beyond the tour routes that  (establish). He crossed a terrifying drop called the "bottomless pit" to discover unmapped areas of the cave system. Although they were unrecognized at the time, pioneers like Bishop helped spark the golden age of cave exploration.

The park now receives around 2 million visitors a year, with roughly a quarter taking a tour of the caves – everything from a cultural tour to the more adventurous scrambling tours on offer. The cave supports more than 130 wildlife species, such as the eyeless cavefish,  has adapted to the lightless environment by no longer growing eyes, and the cave crayfish.

Mammoth Cave National Park is also much more than just a cave; its surrounding forest contains one of  (diverse) habitats in the country. There are miles of trails open for horseback riding, with kayak and canoe trails and great fishing spots. There are also more than 1,300 flowering species in the forest, and animals like wood warblers, thrushes, and bald eagles can regularly be spotted.

Nuts was quite an adventurous and smart squirrel kitten. One day, without the notice of his parents, he slipped out of home and set off to Mr. Elk's Candy Company to buy toffees. On the way, he met Robert the little deer, his best friend. He said, "Hello, Robert. Would you like to come with me to Mr. Elk's Candy Company?"

Robert replied, "Sure. But it's a long way from here. We may come across some fierce beasts (野兽) along the way and get ourselves in danger. I've got to ask my mother."

To which Nuts replied, "Oh, don't be such a coward (胆小鬼)! You'll be back home in no time at all. I have been to the Candy Company alone several times and I have never met any beast at all."

"Okay," Robert replied nervously.

Soon they were both marching joyfully through the forest, although Robert did feel a bit uncertain about the idea. After half an hour, they stopped by at Mr. Cooper's house. Mr. Cooper was the wise squirrel fond of inventing various mousetraps or fox traps to defeat predatory(捕食性的) opponents. Nuts and Robert had a brief chat with Mr. Cooper before they continued their journey to the Mr. Elk's Candy Company.、

Several minutes later, as they were travelling on, a frightening beast appeared from behind the bushes. It was Mr. Gordon, the bad fox!

They both screamed at the very sight. Robert rushed away in panic but then he realised that he had left Nuts behind. When he went back, he found that Nuts was frozen still in front of the fox (a common squirrel instinct).

Mr. Gordon licked his lips and said, "I haven't had squirrel for dinner for a long time." He was about to grab Nuts when Robert screamed from behind the bushes. "Well, well. What do we have here, a live and healthy little deer. He would make an even better dinner," said Gordon. He forgot all about Nuts and began chasing Robert.
