People say that the real culture of Beijing lies in the culture of hutong and siheyuan. How true it is!

Hutong is the name of a small street between rows of siheyuan. In the past, there were hundreds of siheyuan around the Forbidden City.  It became very common during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is said that by 1949 there were as many as 3,250 hutongs. But as time went by, the number fell greatly.  Now there are no more than 1,000 and most of them have turned into tourist attractions with street food, shops and bars.

In a hutong, houses stay close to one another, so it is easy for local people to keep in touch with their neighbors. You can see public bathrooms, toilets and shops selling all kinds of things there.  It is the main way for people to improve their relationships. When you enter the hutong, you can feel the deep and warm relationships among people.

If you want to explore the culture and experience eating and shopping in Beijing, you should never miss a hutong tour.

A. In 2003, only 1,500 were left.

B. Few people like living hutongs.

C. Chatting happily is a common scene.

D. Hutong first appeared in the Yuan Dynasty.

E. They show the old lifestyle of people living in Beijing.

F. You can hardly find this feeling in other places in this modern world.

"May we all be blessed with longevity. Though miles apart, we are still able to share the beauty of the moon together." wrote by Su Shi, a poet (诗人) during the Song Dynasty, in his well-known poem to his younger brother Su Zhe.

The moon is the brightest on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar. On this day, people celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. It has been enjoying great popularity all over the country.

In ancient China, that day was a harvest (丰收) festival because crops were harvested during that period. It was a time to relax and celebrate (庆祝). Just like Thanksgiving in Western countries, families also try to see each other on the Mid-Autumn Festival in China. So no matter (无论) how far away, Chinese people will go back home.

The Mid-Autumn Festival has its own special food just as other traditional Chinese holidays. People eat mooncakes with fillings such as sugar and eggs. The round shape of the cake makes it look like the full moon. The full moon and mooncakes mean family reunion (团聚).

With the beautiful moon up in the sky that night, family sit together to enjoy the moon together. Also, they express the best wishes for the family members who live far.

Short videos (短视频) are very popular in China. They are often fun to watch. People like to watch them  they feel bored or stressed (有压力的). You may be  (surprise) to learn that there were over 800 million short video viewers in China at the end of last year.

Most people kill time by (watch) short videos or they share their everyday lives with other users. But over time, short videos have started to mean something more. Some videos help us learn more about the world. Some v-loggers use short videos (show) delicious Chinese food online. Some short videos also teach people useful skills. For example, teachers tell students how to answer difficult questions (quick) and doctors tell people what they should do when they don't feel well. Everything has two sides. The popularity of short videos can also bring people some problems. Some people spend more time on short-video apps. It means they have (little) time to work or study than before. Some even watch short videos until midnight. That brings lots of problems to people's (eye). What's more, there are always new short videos waiting people. Once they stat watching the them, they can hardly put down (they) phones.

The popularity of short videos brings people closer together on the Internet, and watching short videos is  good way to relax when we are free, but it is not good to spend much time.
