Students in Suzanne Middle School have carried out many interesting surveys online. Here are some of them.

Shopping online or in physical stores (实体商店)?

Online shopping is changing how people buy things today. If you need new clothes but don't want to go out, your smartphone or computer is here to help you. However, according to a survey of 15,000 consumers between the age of 13 and 21 in 16 countries, most of them still prefer physical stores.

    Going offline easy or difficult?

Technology has linked us in ways we never imagined. People spend more and more time on smartphones and computers but pay less attention to their children. Some US parents have felt the need to go offline. However, a recent survey showed that despite their best efforts, most of them couldn't stop using their smartphones and iPads.

Who makes you laugh the most?

We all need a good laugh to cheer us up now and then. People are looking for different ways to get some fun in everyday life. Many like to watch comedies or read jokes. But a survey of 1,258 US teenagers found that 70 percent of them said it is their friends that make them laugh the most.

Do you want to be a boss?

We have read quite a lot of news about teenagers setting up

their own companies. Although most teenagers haven't started to do the same thing, it doesn't mean that they don't want to. According to a survey of 1500 US teenagers from the age of 13 to 18, 79 percent of them said they would like to have their own business.

Just as I entered my house, I heard a sound coming from the bedroom upstairs — it was from myJust as I entered my house, I heard a sound coming from the bedroom upstairs — it was from my favourite violin.

    “Thief!”

I rushed upstairs and saw a boy in dirty clothes pulling my violin down. At first sight, I found a new pair of shoes missing. It seemed he was surely a thief.

However, when I saw his eyes full of fear, my anger disappeared. I smiled and asked, “Are you Mr. Ram's student Rubens? I'm his butler(男管家). I've heard Mr. Ram said his student would come. It must be you.”

“Has my teacher gone out?” the boy said, “I think I'd better visit him again in a while.”

I nodded and asked him, “Do you like playing the violin?”

“Yes, but I'm too poor to afford one.” the boy replied.

“Then, I'll give you this violin.” The boy looked at me in surprise, but he picked up the violin. While going out of the room, he suddenly saw a huge photo of me playing the violin at the Grand Theatre of Sydney on the wall. His face turned pale. He stood there for a moment and ran out. He must have understood what had happened because no master would put up the butler's photo on the wall of his living room.

A few years later, at a music competition in Melbourne, I was invited to be the judge. Finally, a violin player called Merritt won the first prize.

After the prize-giving, Merritt ran to me holding a violin box, his face red, and asked, “Mr. Brian, do you still know me? You gave me this violin, which I have treasured ever since! Today, I want to say sorry and give back the violin to you without regret…”

He was just the “Mr. Ram's student”!

Do you dream of the day when you can drive a car? In the United States, teenagers can get their driver's license when they are only 16 years old, but it feels like forever until that day comes. Trust me, because I've been there.

Getting a driver's license takes a lot of time and energy, but it's worth it because it means having a lot more freedom. I'm from the rural state of Iowa (爱荷华州) that doesn't have a lot of public transportation, and everything is really spread out. So until I turned 16, my parents had to drive me pretty much everywhere.

There were several steps before I got that special plastic card. In Iowa, everyone can get their learner's permit at the age of 14, which means you can only drive if your parent is sitting in the seat next to you.

The next step was getting my school permit at the age of 15. In the state of Iowa, if you live more than a mile (1.6 km) away from school you can get a school permit. But you can only drive to school and back home. Luckily, I lived just over a mile away from school, so I was able to drive my mom's car to school. But if you were caught going outside that route (路线) you would get in big trouble.

Finally, after taking and passing a three-month-long driver's education course and the final test, I was able to get my driver's license. I could almost taste the freedom already, and it did make life quite a bit easier.
