One day when I was young, our school was going to take us to pick berries. I was going out of the house with my basket when my father called me back. He said1to me," Harry, my boy, I want to tell you one thing. When you find a good2, don't leave it to try to find a better one. I know the other students may3, picking one or two berries here and then one or two there. If you do like them, you will come back with an almost4basket. Remember, if you want to get more berries, stick to your bush!"

When we were picking berries, I found things really went just5my father had said- as soon as one of the boys found a good bush, he6to his friends excitedly and all the other boys would leave their places and run to7what he had found.

But8my father's words, I stuck to my bush. When I had done with one, I went to another and9that and then I took another. When night came, I returned with a basket full of10berries, more than all the others11together; and I was not half so12as they were.

Sadly not long after that, my father got ill and died. I had to make my own13in the world. But I14forgot what that day's berry picking taught me. When I had a good job and was getting on well, I didn't spend time15to find a better one. Sometimes I got invitations saying “Come with us, and we will find you16better to do." But I never changed my mind. I just17politely and stuck to my bush.

In fact, the18of sticking to my business led to my great success. Many young people asked me:"19can you make such great achievements?" I know I should thank my father20teaching me the important lesson:*Stick to your bush."

Basketball Player

Luka Horvat writes about his early career

My dad was a professional basketball player in Germany, and I went to watch many of his games when I was a kid. I loved telling my friends how good my dad was, of course especially when he won a game, but I used to take a book with me to read instead of watching.

Starting secondary school, I was still two years away from being a teenager but was already two meters tall. Seeing my height, my sports teacher asked if I'd be interested in training with the basketball team. I thought I'd need to develop my skills before I took part in a real match, but the teacher had more confidence in me than I did. It took me a while to agree, but a few weeks later I found myself playing against a team from another school. Mum and Dad coming to watch didn't really help--it made me more nervous. But it was OK in the end!

For the next four years, I practised every day and did really well, even joining an adult team before I moved abroad to a special sports academy in the USA when I was fifteen. The coach there trains Olympic basketball players, and it was fantastic to work with him. However, I can't say I enjoyed my first experience of living far from my parents. Life wasn't such a change for me because I was as busy as before, never being able to spend much time with my friends because of all the training. I got used to everything about my new life in the end, though, and my English improved quickly too!

I turned professional at the age of eighteen - three years after arriving in the USA. I'd been taller than most players in the professional league since I was fifteen, but I was too light for my height, so I had to get heavier first. My coach already knew a team that would take me while I was still at college, so I joined them and I have never regretted it.

You've probably heard of marketing, but have you ever heard of cause marketing? It usually refers to a partnership between a business and a charity. Instead of simply trying to sell more products and make more money, cause marketing also aims to do some good. Here are examples of some recent cause marketing campaigns(活动).

Eatiply     Eatiply is a "hunger project" with a simple concept: If you eat a meal, a needy person will eat for free. Restaurants that are part of the Eatiply project have certain dishes or special meals they want to promote. If you order one of these dishes, the restaurant will donate a meal to someone in need. Often, this person might be homeless probably living in the same city. This means that the customer doesn't really need to do anything special or pay any more money. Just by ordering a certain dish, you can help out someone in need.

Don't Buy This     How often have you heard a company tell you not to buy its products? Yet that's exactly what a U.S. company did. Patagonia-a maker of outdoor clothing-started an advertising campaign telling people not to buy their products. Instead, the company promised certain things: If you bring your torn or worn-out clothing to them, they'll repair it. If you give them your old clothes, they'll find a way to pass them on to other people, or to recycle them. The message is simple-we are all consuming too much, and need to find ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Pay It Forward     The phrase "pay it forward" refers to the act of repaying a good deed to a new person. Many companies have picked up on this idea and started "pay it forward" campaigns. For example, if you go to buy a coffee, you might choose to pay for two coffees. If a needy person then comes into the coffee shop, they'll get a free coffee. The people who buy the first coffee usually never meet those who are helped, but still feel they've done a good deed.

Many companies believe that customers respond better to cause marketing campaigns. It gives people the chance to do some good while shopping or eating.

Many scientists believe our love of sugar may be an addiction(瘾). When we eat or drink sugary food, the sugar enters our blood and influences parts of our brain that make us feel good. Then the good feeling goes away, leaving us wanting more. All delicious food do this, but sugar has a especially strong effect.

"It seems like every time I study an illness and trace a path to the first cause, I find my way back to sugar," says scientist Richard Johnson. One-third of adults in the world have high blood pressure and up to 347 million have too much sugar in their blood. Why? "Sugar, we believe, is one of theculprits, if not the main culprit," says Johnson.

Early humans often had very little food, so our bodies learned to be very good at storing sugar as fat. In this way, we had energy stored for when there was no food. But today, most people have more than enough. So the very thing that once saved us may now be killing us.

So what is the solution? It's easy to see that we need to eat less sugar. The trouble is, in today's world, it's very difficult to avoid. More and more foods are filled with it. Some producers even use sugar to replace taste in foods that are advertised as low in fat. This may make the food appear as healthier, but large amount of sugar are often added.

But there are those who are fighting back against sugar. Many schools are replacing sugary desserts with healthier food like fruit. Other schools are growing their own food in gardens, or building places for students and others in the community to exercise. The battle has not yet been lost.

All eyes were on Jack Ma. The chairman of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd stepped down on Teachers' Day from leading the e-commerce giant he founded 20 years ago.

"I still have lots of dreams to go after," Ma wrote in an open letter last year to announce his parting. "The world is big, and I am still young, so I want to try new things."

The 55-year-old businessman showed that he was ready for new things by arriving at his farewell party dressed up like a rock star.

In fact, his rags-to-riches story is a good example of doing something different. Visiting the United States in 1995, Ma saw the internet and had the idea of setting up his own trading website. In 1999, he founded Alibaba with a group of friends in a shared apartment, struggling for years to get it off the ground. With all the challenges, the company slowly brought e-commerce to China.

_____________ Although his success has inspired a number of Chinese tech businessmen, Ma pointed out that the key is having a dream. "It's the dreams that keep us never afraid of setbacks," Ma said in a video posted on Sept 9.

_____________ Now the experienced businessman is looking to focus on education. What can he offer?

_____________ "I'm not gonna teach English; I'm not gonna teach business. But I'm gonna teach young people how to face challenges," he told Bloomberg News.

_____________ As Ma said, "Today is cruel(残酷). Tomorrow is crueler. But the day after tomorrow is beautiful."
