When we think of Christmas, we probably think of gifts, Christmas trees and Santa Claus. But the true meaning of Christmas 1 behind all these things: the importance of sharing and giving love and joy to people around us. The story in A Christmas Carol is perhaps the best example of this.

A Christmas Carol is a famous short novel written by British writer Charles Dickens (1812-1870). It is about an old man 2 Scrooge who never laughs or smiles. He only thinks about himself and is  3 to share things with others. He doesn't treat others nicely. He just cares about whether he can make more  4 and he hates Christmas. One Christmas Eve, Scrooge sees the ghost of Jacob Marley, his dead business partner. Marley used to be just like Scrooge, so he was punished after he died. He 5 Scrooge to change his ways if he doesn't want to end up like him. He also tells Scrooge to expect 6 ghosts (幽灵) to visit him.

That 7, the ghosts visit Scrooge. First, the Ghost of Christmas Past takes him back to his childhood and reminds(提醒) him of his happy days 8 a child. Then the second ghost, the Ghost of Christmas Present, takes him to see 9 others are spending Christmas this year. Everyone is happy, even poor people. The last one, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, takes him to the 10. Scrooge sees that he is dead, but nobody cares. He is so 11 that he wakes up in his bed and finds out it is only the next morning — Christmas Day!

Scrooge decides to change his life and 12 to be a kind person. He 13 celebrates Christmas with his relatives. He also gives gifts to people in need. He now treats 14 with kindness and warmth, spreading love and joy everywhere he goes. And that is the true 15 of Christmas!

Many people have a fear(害怕) of public speaking. According to a study, it has an influence on 3 in every 4 people. This fact is surprising and worrying, as most jobs require some speaking ability. The following will help you to make a speech better.

Write note cards. Write main ideas on your cards. Don't write details. Put in some fun facts, questions, and other activities on the cards to share with the class. Don't look at your note cards for a long time while speaking. If necessary, you're only going to have a quick look at the card for information, not read every word.

Smile at your class. When it comes time to speak, there's nothing that draws your class into your speech than a good old-fashioned smile. Be happy, because you're about to teach your class something they didn't know before. Studies have shown that smiles are infections. That means once you smile, it's hard for everyone else not to smile. So if you want your speech to go off well, smile. That will make everyone smile and maybe those smiles will make you actually smile.

Make eye contact. Nothing is more boring than listening to a speaker who looks at the floor or at note cards. Relax. Your class is made up of your friends and you talk to them all the time. Talk the same way now. Have a look at every person in the classroom at least once. That way, everyone will feel like you're communicating with them. Also, you know you'll look like what you're talking about.

Use hand motions. Move your hands along as you talk, using them to express your key points and keep the class interested. It will also lead your nervous energy into a better place.

Brenda Bongos was a happy, talented girl. She had one big dream--to play the drums in a band. But one big problem lay in her way. To be good enough to play in a band, Brenda had to practise a lot, but she lived next door to a lot of old people. Many of them are sick. She knew that the sound of beating drums would really get them nervous. So, she had tried playing in the strangest places: a basement, a kitchen, and even in a shower. But there was always someone who would get mad.

One day, while watching a science documentary on TV, she heard that sound cannot travel in space, because there's no air. At that moment, Brenda Bongos decided to become a musical astronaut.

With the help of a lot of time, books and work, Brenda built a space bubble(泡). This was a big glass ball connected to a machine which sucked out(吸出) all the air inside. All that would be left inside was a drum kit(配套设备) and a chair. Brenda got into the space suit she had made, entered the bubble, turned on the machine, and played those drums like a wild child.

It wasn't long before Brenda Bongos became very famous. Many people came to see her play in her space bubble. Shortly afterwards she came out of the bubble and started giving concerts. Her fame(名声, 名望) spread so much that the government suggested that she be part of a special space journey. Finally,___▲___, and it was far beyond her first dream of playing drums in a band.

Years later, when asked how she had realised all her dreams, she thought for a moment, and said, "If those old people next-door hadn't mattered so much to me, I wouldn't have found a solution(解决), and none of this would have ever happened."

One way to find happiness within you is to show your appreciation (感激) to others. Showing appreciation not only gives happiness to others, but also we can receive happiness in return by writing a letter of appreciation and for the response we get. Often maybe you are strict with yourself by telling yourself you could have done things better. Have a look at your life and think about what you have achieved today. So take 5 minutes right now to write down what you have achieved in life and what you are proud of.

Have you ever kept a diary? Sometimes writing things down will give you a clear thinking and allows you to let go of things. When you write in a diary, you have the ability to express yourself as you truly would like to be.
