It happened about twenty years ago. I was on a very long flight, during1a voice from the radio said, "We won't serve drinks or the meal because we are facing a storm ahead. Please make your seat belts fastened (扣紧)."Many passengers became2, talking about it with each other. At once it became noisy in the plane.

Soon, lightening lit up the dark skies, and in moments the plane was like a boat on the river in the storm. One moment it was lifted up by the storm; the next, it was thrown as if it were to 3 onto the ground. All the passengers were scared. Some cried. Some prayed (祈祷). The future seemed hopeless. I doubted4we could make it through the storm or not.

Then I noticed the little girl next to me. Surprisingly, the storm seemed to mean 5to her. She was calm,6 a picture book. Sometimes she closed her eyes, then she would read again, but she never showed a 7of worry or fear. The little girl wasn't afraid at all while all the adults were scared to8. Finding me watching her, the girl smiled at me and said, "Don't worry. My father is the pilot. He is taking me home. Take it easy. He will take us home safely. " When the plane was9 danger, I smiled at the girl and she gave me a big smile in return. "I said my father10us home safely. "

Many kinds of storms may trouble us — illnesses, difficulties... They can easily darken our skies and throw our planes into hard times. Let us remember: Love is the pilot. It will help us out. So take it easy.

There were once two brothers who lived on the 80th floor. On coming home one day, the lifts were not working and they had to climb the stairs home.

After struggling (挣扎)to the 20th floor, they decided to throw down their bags and come back for them the next day. They left their bags and climbed on. When they got to the 40th floor, the younger brother started to complain (抱怨) and both of them began to quarrel (吵架). They continued quarreling all the way to the 60th floor.

They then realized that they had only 20 floors to climb and decided to stop quarreling and continue climbing in peace. They silently climbed on and reached their home. Each stood before the door and waited for the other to open it. But they realized that the key was in their bags which were left on the 20th floor.

This story is like our life. Many of us live under the expectations of our parents, teachers and friends when we are young. We seldom get to do the things that we really love and are under so much stress that by the age of 20, we get tired and decide to drop something.

Free from the stress, we work excitely with dreams. But by the time we reach 40 years old, we start to lose our dreams. We begin to feel unsatisfied and start to complain. The life is hard as we are never satisfied. Reaching 60, we realize that we have little left for complaining any more, and we begin to walk the rest years in peace.

We think that there is nothing left to let us down, only to realize that we could not rest in peace because we have an unfinished dream--a dream we threw down 60 years ago.

Most people hate change, which is sad since we often go through big changes in life. And for some of us, even the smallest changes can upset our day. So why do most of us find making changes to our lives so hard?

Fear of change is nothing new. Over a century ago, people of Paris were unhappy because of the Eiffel Tower. In fact, people were so angry about the plans for the tower that they protested (抗议)it. They were given no choice about the huge change that was going to be made, so they became angry.

Changes are brought about every day by the decisions we make: which school to attend, which job to take, whom to marry.

People have discovered that the key to overcoming the fear and anger of change is to be flexible (灵活的). It is especially important in the 21st century as technology makes change take place faster than ever before.

When change comes, and you have no choice but to face it, accept it. A good attitude helps a lot. You may make the best friends of your life in the new city you moved to. It's up to you whether the change will be a success or a failure. You never know - your next change may be your life's Eiffel Tower!

A. Although it might seem strange, their anger was completely natural.

B. People can accept new situations more easily in this way.

C. In fact, the change may turn out to be the best thing for you.

D. How can we overcome our fear of change?

E. Why we dislike change?
