What should you do while you are away from home? Here comes some advice.

If you are leaving children or your husband/ wife at home, make sure they have everything they might need from you while you are away. Freeze a few favorite dishes so that they can taste your cooking while you are away. Leave a photo of yourself with little children, who will be happy to see your face each day. Leave instructions with the children's caregiver(看护者) for everything from snacks to bedtime habits.

Always let your family know where you will be. Give them flight numbers, hotel names and addresses, as well as a schedule of your activities. Plan for a way for them to reach you when necessary. Make sure they have the phone number for the places you're staying at. If you will go hiking or camping, schedule regular check-in time for calling your family.

Clean out the fridge. Toss out the food that was left over as well as any items that will expire(过期) before you return. Keep the vegetables for at least one or two meals in the fridge so that you won't have to go on a last-minute shopping trip as soon as you get home.

Buy timers for three or four lights throughout the house and set them to go off at different time. This will help the house look as if there were people in it while you're away. You should also plan for a friend or neighbor to cut the grass if you will be away for a long time. Maybe thieves break into your house if it looks uncared for.

Social media plays an important role in our lives. We check our social

media accounts(账户) such as emails and Facebook almost every day. Lately, people like posting pictures just for the purpose of getting others' attention through their "flowers", no matter whether these pictures are good or not. Recently, I was very annoyed with these types of posts, so I decided to stop using social media for one week.

After not using social media for a week, I can honestly say that everything has changed. Before last week, I used to check Facebook more than five times a day, as well as of my other social accounts, and I couldn't understand why I did that. Now I check Facebook much less.

People are so obsess(迷恋的) with posting pictures that have no meaning to them just for the purpose of posting something online. Whenever I look at Instagram, all of the comments on pictures are the same. People depend on how many "likes" they get on what they post as an achievement. I just want to say, "None of it matters!" As I start to fully understand this now, I wonder why I have social media if all of this annoys me so much. But then I realize that I actually post meaningful things that my friends enjoy, and to me, that's more important than getting "likes" on a picture.

Maybe as a society, we are using social media wrongly. I think we sometimes forget that social media helps us contact with people who are far away from us. I think it's a beautiful thing that I am able to go on Facebook and feel connected with people that I don't have the opportunity of seeing every single day anymore.
